    Please help..Diasaster has struck. Suddenly all the icons, files and folders that were on my desktop have disappeared all that
    remains are some post it notes. I have a Dell dimensionC521 with windows XP service pack 2. I rebooted but no difference.I am totally lost

    Right-click an empty space on the desktop, then hover the mouse arrow over "Arrange Icons By", then make sure there's a checkmark in "Show Desktop Icons".

    Why haven't you upgraded to SP3? You won't be able to obtain the monthly security updates and hotfixes from Microsoft until you do.
