Hi All I have a Windows XP that is concerning me because it wont Defrag because of to many corrupt files.
I plan on getting a better desktop when money provides it.

I want to attach my Defrag file to you.

Those files that cannot be defragmented are from AVG, probably meaning they're in use, by AVG!

Try running the defrag after disabling AVG.

Sometimes, running the defrag while in Safe Mode is the only option.

You can also try a third party defragmenter like Auslogics Disk Defrag.

If still no luck, run a chkdsk /r and try defragging again.

Having some files fragmented will have absolutely no affect whatever on the operation of your machine. Maybe in Windows 98.....

Windows would need to be offline for full defragmentation. Paragon Total Defrag is one solution. As is UBCD4Win.

Large numbers of files cannot be defragged while Windows is running. In XP, PageDefrag can defrag the registry and pagefile at boot time.

I don't know how often you defrag the hard drive, but defragging it frequently is NOT advisable because it puts wear-and-tear and stress on it. Once a month is sufficient.

I defrag about twice a year and there isn't ever much to defrag, nor any noticeable improvement in performance! People tend to highly overrate defragging...
