So I try to get my computer to "unhibernate" this morning and nothing- it just stops on the page where it says windows is strarting up.

When I finally gave up and rebooted I get the error saying Windows recovered from a serious problem. WhenI clicked on the technical issues, here is what came up:

    C:\DOCUME~1\2Talll\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERf29c.dir00\Mini020105-01.dmp
    C:\DOCUME~1\2Talll\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERf29c.dir00\sysdata.xml

Here's the hijackthis log I just did after the problem:

I don't see any malware at issue here. The message is basically telling you you crashed. The error message in most cases can be found in the "event viewer" in Administrative Tools. Look under the System and Applications logs for red x's. Most likely this is a system error. Try to find the driver involved.

Also have a look in the folder:

    C:\WINDOWS\Minidump

for a recently dated .dmp file. You will probably find this one copied there:

    Mini020105-01.dmp

You can open these in Notepad and they will look mostly like garbage. But select Edit > Find and enter:

    stop

find the "Stop" error. Here's one I keep around from the days when I had Symantec installed:

    STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005,0xB219F2DD,0xB230FA64,0x00000000)

    (y)

Although I haven't had any crashes for a while, I generally don't fuss too much about one, unless it repeats.

Yeah, once in a while is no bid deal for me either but I had all sorts of problems on Friday with it and wanted to make sure nothing likethat was happening again.
