Hey everyone,
My name is Alex. I'm 20 years old and am fortunate to have a job in the I.T department of a local company based here in San Diego. I'd first like to say that I absolutely love this community - everyone has been so helpful. From getting near-professional help with Excel macros, to intricate error trouble shooting in various apps, this has been the place to go. Often times, I can count on getting a quick, efficient, and helpful answer here - rather than getting it from the manufacturing of whatever software program the question is regarding!
I've been working this job for a few months now and it's great. Getting a lot of experience all across the board. Unfortunately - there is an end in sight. Being a small company, we don't have the immediate need for say, an Excel expert, a networking wizard, or a web design guru on staff. Unfortunate, because I would prefer to pursue that!
My question to anyone out there who is willing, is if I could get some help. That's why we come here - for help - right? I'm really interested in such careers as a Network Specialist, System and Security Administrator, Software developer and more... almost all avenues of the I.T. world are appealing to me. I'm just having trouble figuring out where to start!
Do I get a degree or begin getting certifications?
Degree first, then certs?
Is attending a trade school a good idea?
What certifications are best to get first?
What programming language is best to learn first?
These are just some of the question I need help getting answered. If anyone who has experienced some success with the path they have taken in their careers, I would love to hear from you. Hell, I will even pay for some great advice. Please PM me to get in touch!
So nice to meet you all,
-Alex
