Hello,
I'm new to your site. I hear that you guys are really good at finding problems. I ran "Spybot" and "Ad-aware" then I ran "Hijackthis" to get a log to examine.
The first symtom is I am getting alot of popups which I feel is coming from "CERES". This is being distributed from a company called The ABI network. I cannot get rid of this one!!
Another problem I am having is that I keep getting warnings that there is a WINTASK error in KERNEL 32.DLL. I was also getting the same error as the WINTASK but it was called something different that started with a "Q" (I can't remember what). After running Spybot, Adaware and running file searches I determined that something had corrupted the Quicktime files so I deleted it and the errors stopped and became WINTASK errors.??
One item that seems to help with the popups is to turn off the KFUGAL.EXE from the task manager.
Also I purchased Norton internet security 2005. It began loading just fine but it stopped loading just before the end and will not delete or reload.
***I know that this is probably quite a mess. I would really appreciate your help. :)

Here is the log from Hijackthis;

Have these instructions printed or in a convenient Notepad (or Wordpad) file so you can view them in Safe Mode. Have "show hidden (or all) files" checked in Folder Options > View in case you have to search for any hidden files to delete. Also ensure you do NOT have "hide file extensions..." enabled in Folder Options > View

If HijackThis has not been downloaded or copied to a permanent folder, move it there before beginning.

Download and unzip to a convenient location the CoolWebShredder, CWShredder.exe available here: http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html

Then:

1 >> Restart in Safe Mode. Instructions here if you need them:http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406

2 >> In Safe Mode run the CoolWebShredder and have it "fix" detected problems. Then run HijackThis and check and "fix" the following entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = about:blank

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wdskctl] C:\WINDOWS\wdskctl.exe

^^ delete this file while still in Safe Mode

O4 - Startup: nrna.exe

^^ delete this from the Start Menu > Startup folder

O16 - DPF: Serome Web2Phone - http://www.dialpad.com/applet/vscp.cab
O16 - DPF: Dialpad Java Applet - http://www.dialpad.com/applet/src/vscp.cab

>> Delete this file while still in Safe Mode: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KFUGAL.EXE

Additional cleanup instructions: Go to the Control Panel > Internet Options applet. Clear the Temporary Internet Cache, History and Offline Content. Go to the Programs tab and select "reset web settings", including your home page if it has been altered. You can reset that later to what you desire.

Go to Start > Run, enter %temp% and then click Edit > Select All. Right click on the selected files and folders and delete them

>> Reboot and post a new Scanlog. let me know what problems, if any, remain.

Great, post another Scanlog just so I can verify with my own eyes that it looks good to go. And if all seems well, you can mark the thread "Solved" using the Thread Tools tab.

I am sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I have not had a lot of time to get onto the computer.
I am still having a problem with loading Norton internet security. The first time I loaded it the program stopped just short of completing the installation. So I uninstalled it using Symantec symNRT.exe. Then I reinstalled it in safemode. The installation did complete and the program started working but every time i restarted the computer I would get a window that would say that "to complete the Norton installation I would need to restart my computer". So I uninstalled it again.

The ceres abi popups have never stopped.
Shortly after doing what you suggested alot of the items came back and showed up on the highjackthis log when I would rerun it.
Here is the updated highjackthis log. :) Thank you very much for your help Rog. Dan(jeepcj) :D

There are no problems showing in this HijackThis scanlog, so you must be continuing to delete new entries.

The question then is, when do these begin to appear? Are they pop-ups that occur offline as well, and do they begin even if you do not re-establish a connection and browse?

Or are they associated with some particular site or activity?

Generally these types of ad machines are either included in bundled software or by active x installs. You may need to check your Security settings to ensure that they do not occur without prompting.

Internet Options recommended Security settings

Click the "Security" tab:

Verify the "default" level is set on "Medium" > prompt before downloading potentially unsafe content.

Click the "Custom Level" tab and verify the following configurations:

ActiveX Controls & Plugins

Download Signed ActiveX Controls
--- prompt

Download UNsigned ActiveX Controls
--- disable

Initialize and script ActiveX Controls NOT marked as safe
--- disable

Run ActiveX Controls and Plugins
--- enable

Script ActiveX Controls marked as SAFE
--- enable

Rolling no offense

Oh we do have problems

Fix these with HJT

O2 - BHO: CControl Object - {3643ABC2-21BF-46B9-B230-F247DB0C6FD6} - C:\Program Files\E2G\IeBHOs.dll

DL http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip

Restart your computer into safe mode now. (Tapping F8 at the first black screen) Perform the following steps in safe mode:

Open Windows Explorer. Go to Tools, Folder Options and click on the View tab.
Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Now click "Apply to all folders", Click "Apply" then "OK"

Delete these folders

C:\Program Files\E2G\

START – RUN – type in %temp% OK - Edit – Select all – File – Delete
Delete everything in the C:\Windows\Temp folder or C:\WINNT\temp
Empty the recycle bin
Boot

Run ActiveScan online virus scan

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

When the scan is finished, anything that it cannot clean have it delete it. Make a note of the file location of anything that cannot be deleted so you can delete it yourself.
- Save the results from the scan!

Post a new HiJackThis log along with the results from ActiveScan

Please give feedback on what worked/didn’t work and the current status of your system

(y) Your right Rog, I have been continuing to delete the items from the HJT (HIJACKTHIS) log. You will see the items that reoccur in this log. They don't reoccur until I connect to the internet. I have also been continuing to run Spybot and Adaware. I did the Activescan from PandaSoftware (that takes a while to complete). I will logwhat I got from the first scan but ofcourse I went through and deleted all of them but a couple that I could not find. A Ceres item listed on a HJT log just prior to the log I posted on the 10th so I fixed it. Then another file with the letters ABI showed up in the Panda Scan so I deleted that. It has not popped up since. I have tried loading my Norton internet security in safe mode but it still continues to give me problems. I'm just going to contact Symantec to see what they recommend.

Here is my second ActiveScan. One file that I could not find to delete was: C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\website.ocx
it just wasn't there. I made sure that folder options wasn't hiding anything. ?

Adware:Adware/Midaddle No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\scat.exe Adware:Adware/DelFinMedia No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\vidctrl\vidctrl.exe

Adware:Adware/TopConvert No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\website.ocx
The rest were temp files.
I think that continuing to run the Activescan and the HJT will cleanup most of the mess. Infact I wasn't getting any popups except for Ebay's junk untill my daughter went surfing today. Of course it will help a great del as soon as I get the Norton up and running.
Thank you Rog and MFDnSC

Dear MFDinSC,
**I ran the Buster and it didn't find anything. This is the log below.

AboutBuster 5.0 reference file 30

Scan was COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY at 5:18:13 PM

**What I have found that works best so far is to run the Panda ActiveScan and also the HIJACKTHIS scan. I will post my latest HJT scan and ActiveScan and then highlight the files that are reoccuring. Thank You for your help I have learned alot from this site from you guys. I will be sure to donate to the cause. Thanks again, Dan

Download and unzip the "killbox":

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip

Check the following entries in the HijackThis scanlog, close your browser, and select "fix checked":

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = about:blank

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wdskctl] C:\WINDOWS\wdskctl.exe

O18 - Filter: text/html - {8293D547-38DD-4325-B35A-F1817EDFA5FC} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\CAS\CLIENT\CASMF.DLL

^^>> http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.casinoclient.html

If this is in Add/Remove programs, remove it from there. You can also delete the "CAS" folder in Program Files --- you may need to do it in Safe Mode.

Run the killbox and copy paste this as the file to be deleted:

C:\WINDOWS\wdskctl.exe

put a check in "delete on reboot"' have all programs closed and be prepared for a reboot. Select the red button with the X and follow the prompts; you should reboot automatically.

Post a new HijackThis scanlog after the reboot and monitor it for changes after being online.

Stay off gambling sites that install software.

Do the "no"s in that log indicate they have not been cleaned, or still present on the system? Seems rather strange that the one that was starting was one not listed at all.
