Is it possible to hide an IP address so that other users can't see it? also, is there a program that changes it, so that people who look for it will see a random number istead of your real IP?

I am running Windows XP home Ed., if you want to know.

I also know i am supposed to check the archives first, but when i tried, i found that it has to be at least 3 letters for each search term, and "IP" obviously isnt long enough.

    Thanks,
    Nick

People need to understand you have an IP address for a reason. It was not invented for every computer to be accessed by hackers. Without an IP, servers can not send data back to your PC. If an IP address could be some random number, it would be useless and computers would not have them.

Use a firewall, and you will be safe.
Look up ZoneAlarm or Sygate, those are the leading free ones.
