I was hoping someone could help with a problem ive got. My pc isnt super fast but iits got 3.0ghz processor 2gb ram an a ok graphics card. i can happlily play black and white 2 or warhammer 40,000 things like like that with the settings high. well ive just got broadband installed and now im having problems. My cpu is 100% most of the time and my memory creeps up the longer the compter stays on. The only 2 things that ive changed is install a usb wifi dongle and update to internet explore 8 because i couldnt watch youtube. Now my pc is so slow and i dont know why. I assumed if my pc was fast enough to play the above games then going on the internet would be no problem. Any advice to why my pc is running flat out would be very helpfull. Thanks in advance

Can you tell us which process(es) is/are hogging that CPU? (Process Explorer is quite useful for such a task)

1- Please click HERE to download HijackThis.
    2- Run the program.
3- Click on the Main Menu button if not already there.
4- Select Do a system scan and save a logfile.
5- Copy and paste the scan log from Notepad into your next reply.
6- Do not "Fix" anything unless advised to do so.

The cpu is 30% and 100% when nothing is running and documents, pictures are slow to open and cant even run games that worked fine 5 days ago. Internet explorer is the worst though when its open is cpu is 100% and memory use creeps up from 350mg all the way up to 1.5gb the longer its on. My specs are

    Windows XP Professional SP3
    Intel Celeron CPU 3.06GHZ
    2.0GB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS
    PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard.

I suggest you get rid of IObit Advanced SystemCare 5 and any other cleaner/optimizer/booster/tuneup type programs you have in that computer before you wind up damaging the Windows operating system and breaking some of your programs.

Yeah ive tried internet explorer without add ons but no difference and flash is updated. I cant understand why the computer would be so much slower when all i did was install a wifi dongle and updated internet explorer. Its slow when no windows are open and nothing is running. i could play my games fine a few days ago but now something is using all the cpu and memory before i even open or start anything. I assumed if my pc was good enough to play 3d games with settings high then running the internet would be no problem.

Start HiJackThis, but don't run a scan.

Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button.

Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.

Click on the "Save List" button.

    Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file somewhere.

    It'll then open in Notepad.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire file here.

    -----------------------------------------------------

Click Start - Run, then type in

    %temp%

    and then click OK.

Click Start - Run, then type in

    c:\windows\temp

    and then click OK.

Once those 2 temp folders appear and you can view their contents, select and delete EVERYTHING that's inside them.

If a few files resist being deleted, that's normal behavior. Leave them alone and delete EVERYTHING else.

After you're done, restart the computer.

That computer is LOADED with games, so it's pretty obvious what you mostly use it for.

    --------------------------------------------------------

Avast! Free Antivirus appears to be your antivirus program, so make sure it's updated to the current version 6.0.1367.

    --------------------------------------------------------

I don't see anything installed for combating malware, spyware, rogues, hijackers, etc., so that needs to be done.

Download and save and then install the free version of

    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.51.2.1300

    SUPERAntiSpyware 5.0.0.1136

After that's been done and their definition files have been updated, run a quick scan with each one.

After the quick scan is finished, select and remove everything they find.

Note: DON'T use the computer while each scan is in progress.

    You're welcome. :)

Between deleting the buildup of temp files and finding and removing the buildup of malware, spyware, etc., let's see if things improve.

Ive used the 2 programs you said and done scans. It found a few things which suprised me. Didnt think id have any being online only a week. Computers clear but no faster and i cant see why. I can understand the internet being a bit slow with a wireless conection but why would the pc itself be slow and cpu and memory usage be high when all i did was update to IE8 and install a wifi usb dongle. All i want is to play games and use youtube and facebook etc. Facebook games are the worst when i play on them my memory shoots up to 1.6GB but soon as i close IE8 it drops down to 250MB. Any other ideas would be really helpfull. Thanks in advance.

I'm not a gamer, nor do I use U-Tube and FaceBook, so I can't really address those issues.

If poossible try to use LAN line to test the speed ... because wireless card also use CPU Power ...

Also try to reset the router if you didn't do it recently... just unplug the power from the router and put in black after 15 sec

The last thing is to use Process Explorer
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653
and see what use up the CPU Power.
