Give me a few minutes to go over your log.
I'm going to make DAP a "dealers choice" item. I have never really seen any noticeable improvement using any acceleration program. With the nature of the net, you could d/l the same file 5 times and get 5 different download times due to the path thru the net each one takes. Maybe it's that variable that their marketing people depend on. :)

IF you honestly think it makes things faster, leave it. Otherwise it just uses resources starting every time you start windows.

The good news is that I don't see anything in your log that is really bad. Just a few things that really don't need to be started up and taking up resources every time you boot up windows. If any thing is really needed it can be run from the Start > Programs menu on an as needed basis.

The "bad news" is, I don't see any type of antivirus software or firewall running. I would STRONGLY reccommend looking into both!!

In Hijack This, check ALL of the following items. Double check so as to be sure not to miss a single one.
Next, close all browser Windows, and have HT fix all checked.

    Reboot

Now download Spybot - Search & Destroy (if you haven't got the program installed already)

After installing, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.

Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove/fix all it finds that are in RED

    Reboot

Last, run HJT again and post your log again to see if anything was missed.

    Thanks

Thanks so much! I am looking for a good anti-virus program that I can afford ( totally broke at the moment, so need a free one--- I had a trial run that ended just recently)

I have always felt that DAP did download much faster due to it drawing files from several sites at once, but I haven't tested this since I switched to DSL. I shall now.

after running Spybot search and destry, I re-ran HiJackthis..my results:

AVG is among the best free ones
    http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_avg_index.php

Just so you know, DAP and the others are still there, nothing was deleted. Just taken out of the refistary for starting up with Windows.

I would be interested in the results of your test.
D/l a file say 3-5 times without DAP enabled and then enable it and d/l the same file 3-5 more times. It will be interesting to know the times and the file size.

    Good Luck!!
