We have trouble with our laptop that hs some weird code appeared on the desktop picture and places itself in front of anything we use eg: IE. I've ran various AVG, Spyware, CCleaner, Spybot and only found a few bits that I have got rid of but the problem persists. Hijack this log below, can anyone help decode it? Many Thanks

1.99.1 is an ancient version of HiJackThis and needs to be uninstalled/removed.

After that's done, go here and click the green icon to download HiJackThis 2.0.4.

Make sure to install it in its default location - C:\Program Files.

After that's done, run a new scan and then submit a new log.

There appears to be multiple antivirus programs installed and running.

There appears to be outdated and unneeded programs.

The SP1 upgrade for Windows 7 doesn't appear to be installed.

---------------------------------------------------------

Start HiJackThis, but don't run a scan.

Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button.

Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.

Click on the "Save List" button.

Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file somewhere.

It'll then open in Notepad.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire file here.

Your "uninstall_list.txt" log is incomplete. The bottom part of it is missing. I need the complete log.

---------------------------------------------------------

While I'm waiting to see a complete "uninstall_list.txt" log, do the following:

Download and SAVE these programs and add-ons:

Adobe Flash Player ActiveX 11.1.102.55

Adobe Flash Player Plugin 11.1.102.55

Adobe Reader 10.1.1

Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0.29(6 Update 29)

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.51.2.1300

Microsoft Security Essentials 4.0.1111.0

Microsoft Silverlight 5.0.61118.0

SUPERAntiSpyware 5.0.0.1136

AVG Remover(32bit) 2012

Norton Removal Tool 2012.0.0.19

Do NOT do anything with them yet! Just download and SAVE them.

You have a lot of uninstalling, installing, updating, replacing, etc. to do.

Okay, thanks. The log looked too short, and it appeared that the bottom section was missing.

--------------------------------------------------------

Part of what I want to do is to have you uninstall/remove AVG Free 9.0 and Norton 360 and then run their removal tools and then install Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus program.

Besides being free, it's very user-friendly, it isn't problematic like AVG and Norton is, and it's well recommended in these forums. I personally use it in all 4 of my computers.

Do you have any objection to doing this?

--------------------------------------------------------

Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot - Search & Destroy will be uninstalled/removed and then replaced.

The others are to update current versions and to install needed programs.

Do the following in the order listed.

Take your time and pay attention to each window that appears during the install/update process.
