Here is my Hijack this log...I keep getting a "sex dialer" attempting to install on reboot and my IE pages hijacked to a search results page. The page goes to a "horseserver" link before displaying the search results.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Add/remove programs – remove wildtangent

    That log is old but

    SpywareBlaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
    AdAware SE http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
    SpyBot S&D 1.3 http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

DL them (they are free), install them, check each for their
    definition updates
and then run AdAware and Spybot, fixing anything
    they say.

In SpywareBlaster - Always enable all protection after updates
SpyBot - After an update run immunize

Do these and reboot before the next step.

Then get HiJack This http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html, put
it in a permanent folder (C:\HJT) , run it , DO NOT fix anything, post the
    log here.

That is not a complete log

    Open the log in notepad

    EDIT - SELECT ALL
    EDIT - COPY

Then come to this message, and in the quick reply box click in the white space and then EDIT - PASTE

    I would however fix

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [smxdmcnzgfnu] C:\WINDOWS\System32\zsxcwiac.exe

and delete this file after booting C:\WINDOWS\System32\zsxcwiac.exe

Okay, I've been battling viruses and adware for the past week trying to get them off of my computer. Don't know if this is related, but the computer was working fine, but now suddenly when I start up, windows xp attempts to start and I get the following message:

"The instruction at 0x77f581bd referenced memory at 0x0070803c. The memory could not be "written". Click on OK to terminate the program.

I've tried booting in safe mode, etc. with no luck. I tried swapping the memory out, no dice.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

Print this and boot to safe mode
    Fix these with HJT

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [smxdmcnzgfnu] C:\WINDOWS\System32\zsxcwiac.exe

    O16 - DPF: {0837121A-6472-43BD-8A40-D9221FF1C4CE} - http://download.sidestep.com/get/k42032/sb026.cab

    O23 - Service: Manageer Network Connections - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\System32\telcmd.exe

    O23 - Service: Working Network Connections - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hicom.exe

    View Hidden Files
Open Windows Explorer. Go to Tools, Folder Options and click on the View tab.
Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".
Now click "Apply to all folders", Click "Apply" then "OK"

    Delete these files

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\telcmd.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\hicom.exe

    START – RUN – key in %temp% - Edit – Select all – File – Delete
    Empty the recycle bin
Boot and post a new log

Go to Control Panel - Add/Remove programs and remove:

    BroadJump
    TopMoxie

Rescan with Hijack This, close all browser windows except Hijack This, put a check mark beside these entries and click “fix checked”.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [smxdmcnzgfnu] C:\WINDOWS\System32\zsxcwiac.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BJCFD] C:\Program Files\BroadJump\Client Foundation\CFD.exe

    O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe

    O4 - Global Startup: hp center UI.lnk = C:\Program Files\hp
    center\137903\Shadow\ShadowBar.exe

    O4 - Global Startup: hp center.lnk = C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe

    O16 - DPF: {0837121A-6472-43BD-8A40-D9221FF1C4CE} - http://download.sidestep.com/get/k42032/sb026.cab

    O16 - DPF: {3907FEBA-74A6-49C1-A389-B1E076416538} - http://www.topmoxie.com/external/bu...mypt800_301.cab

    O16 - DPF: {39B0684F-D7BF-4743-B050-FDC3F48F7E3B} (FilePlanet Download Control Class) - http://www.fileplanet.com/fpdlmgr/c...DC_1_0_0_44.cab

Then boot to safe mode (see how below), locate and delete these files and/or folders:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\zsxcwiac.exe - file
    C:\Program Files\BroadJump - folder

How to restart to safe mode:
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...2001052409420406?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam

Because XP will not always show you hidden files and folders by default, Go to Start - Search and under "More advanced search options". Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Next click on My Computer. Go to Tools - Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types". Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

Reboot and post another log please.

Thanks. Unfortunately, my problem is now that I can't get past the "windows is starting up" screen. Can't get into safe mode either without an auto reboot happening.

BTW, include those two O23 entries MFDnNC mentioned. I missed those. I'm way too tired tonight, time for bed. :(
