My son told me he'd clicked on that ralph . com link in a friend's AIM profile - -
    previous thread on this -
    http://forums.techguy.org/t171238/sf0f4f792a5ccec4b13412e3be1196c1c.html

Said he'd (for some reason) closed the window before it opened completely. The computer seems fine. I did a Hijack This log anyway. just to see, and although I don't see anything about the ralph thing especially, I'm not sure what I am seeing here, so I thought I'd ask you before I do anything rash. Thanks.

Then please shut down for about 30 seconds and reboot the computer, You have 2 instances of explorer.exe running which is unusual. I would like to see if it still happens after a reboot.

When you first start up, please run a hijackthis scan & post the log before you start any other programs

You stillahve 2 instances of explorer.exe running.I can't see any obvious baddies elsewhere in the log, but 2 explorer.exe versions is unusual.

please post a stsrt up list to check where both are starting from.

open hijackthis/config/misc tools/tick both boxes about minor & empty sections and press generate start uplist.

I am sure there will be an perfectly innocent reason for it, but it's best to check to be on the safe side

I would also Run an online antivirus check from at least one of the following sites just to be sure
    http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?
    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

I'll get going on he online scan right now. But just wanted to let you know - the StartUp list I generated per your instructions is 20 pages long! (I pasted it into a Word doc to see how it turned out.) Do you still want me to post it?

It shouldn't be that long ( word always make things much bigger than they need to be , it should automatically come up in notepad and be about 100/150 lines long at the most

if it is notepad copy & paste it, a word doc, will not copy & pasrte well to the forums

I have to vanish because I have an early start tomorrow but Firman1 will keep an eye open and advise you if anything crops up

I will look at this thread tomorrow when I get back late morning or lunch time and hope it's all resolved happily by then

Other than seeing two instances of the Microsoft Indexing Service:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\cidaemon.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\cidaemon.exe

a possible "performance" issue, not a "malware" one, I don't see anything amiss. You should probably post the Scanlog as well though, as it will show browser related entries that don't show up here.

A description of it is covered here:

    http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_c.htm

Personally, I have it disabled on my desktop

When I Ctrl+Alt+Del, it shows two instances of cidaemon.exe running. But only one instance of explorer.exe. From what I can see. I think.

You should only have one instance of Explorer. Why you have two of the other I don't know. You might try rebooting and not opening any new applications and check to see whether both are still there.
