Go here and click the HijackThis.exe link so you can download and install the current version of HijackThis, which is 1.99.1. Once you've downloaded and saved the HijackThis.exe file, double-click it so it can install and place itself in the C:\PROGRAM FILES\HIJACKTHIS folder. Once that's done, get rid of the old version. Run a scan with the new version, then post a new log here.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Do you currently have any peripherals connected to it, such as a printer or scanner? You likely have software programs installed in it that you don't need and should be removed.

----------------------------------------------------------------

The original version of Windows XP is still installed, so you're about 4 years behind on updates and enhancements.

We need to uninstall some of the software programs and drivers that don't pertain to you. I need a little more information first though.

What is the brand name, model name, and model number of that computer(i.e. HP Pavilion 8160, Compaq Presario 5030. Dell Dimension 4700)? It should all be listed on the case.

What Internet Service Provider(ISP) are you using?

What antivirus program are you using? I see evidence of 2 of them(McAfee VirusScan and Grisoft AVG) in that computer.

This is some information that was given to me to pass on to you. Make use of it.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
· Install ewido.
· During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
· Launch ewido
· It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
· On the left side of the main screen click update
· Click on Start and let it update.
· DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.

Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:

Run Ewido:
· Click on scanner
· Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
· During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
· When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
· Save the report to your desktop
This will take some time to run!
Post that log and a new HiJack log

I've never used EWIDO, so I don't know why you're having an install problem.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Are you sure it's a Packard Bell and not a Hewlett Packard? I don't believe Packard Bell computers were allowed to be sold in the United States by the time processor speeds reached 1 GHz+.

You should have at least 256 MB, and preferably 512 MB of RAM, in that computer. 128 MB of RAM is way too little RAM for Windows XP. (n)

----------------------------------------------------------------

I've got nothing good to say about AOL(also known as "AOL HELL"). (n)

----------------------------------------------------------------

If you're using Grisoft AVG antivirus, you need to get rid of the McAfee VirusScan crap.

Make sure it's uninstalled from the Add/Remove Programs list.

Make sure there is no McAfee or VirusScan or Network Associates folders in the C:\Program Files folder. If there is, right-click them and delete them.

Click Start - Run, type in REGEDIT, then click OK. Click the + in HKEY_CURRENT_USER - Software and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - Software. In the Software sub-menu of both, look for any folders with one of the above names. If they are present, right-click them and delete them.

----------------------------------------------------------------

After you've done the above, reboot, then run another HijackThis scan and post a new log here.

----------------------------------------------------------------
