Hijack This!

Well..I have an issue. I was having problems with Ad Ware and Spy Ware on my computer, so I downloaded Ad-Aware. It got rid of most of the AD & Spy Ware, however, there was some things it didnt find..hiding out in my computer. So I downloaded a program called Hijack This! It scans everything and you choose what you would like to remove. That worked for a while. But recently my brother downloaded some kind of "smiley central" program and it put all kinds of ad ware, pop up stuff on here. I used AD-Aware and Hijack This!, but I keep getting pop ups. I am running on Windows 98 from a Compaq Presario 1600 laptop. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Thanks!

CagedHeat3:

Installing "Smiley Central" will load your computer with spyware, place a toolbar in your browser window, place about 3 entries in the Add/Remove Programs list, and place about 3 folders in the C:\Program Files folder.

Download and install Ad-aware 6.0.181 and Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.2, update them, then run them both. If Spybot prompts you to reboot so it can finish deleting the spyware that it finds, do so.

You might want to read here before you start.

hijackthis instructions:

go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Hey..I had no idea you could update AD-Aware, I did that and it found 12 registry keys. Which I have removed. Problem solved. Thanks guys!!! Here is my Hijack This logfile for before I removed the registry keys just in case you are interested. Dont see any traces of registry keys in there...hmm...
