You said you've run Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4. Have you also run Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06 and CWShredder 2.15?

You can get all 3 from the spyware tools section at www.majorgeeks.com.

Make sure to run the update function of Spybot and Ad-Aware about once a week because you need to keep them up-to-date just like an antivirus program.

----------------------------------------------------------------

You've got several programs running in the background that don't need to be. The smaller the startup list is kept, the better your computer will run.

----------------------------------------------------------------

You need to move the HijackThis.exe file out of the temp file you have it in and move it to a proper location.

Open the C:\PROGRAM FILES folder and create a new folder in there called HijackThis, then move the HijackThis.exe file into it.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Open the C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\TERENCE\LOCAL SETTINGS\TEMP folder, then delete everything that's in there.

Click Start - Search - All Files And Folders, select the hard drive ( C: ) to look in, then type in and delete everything that appears under

*.TMP

C:\TEMP\*.*

C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\*.*

Don't be surprised if hundreds of these files appear. It's all junk, so get rid of it.

After you've done the above and have rebooted, post a new log here.

----------------------------------------------------------------

By the way, run those 3 utilities in this order:

Ad-Aware (select and fix everything)
Spybot (select and fix everything in red)
CWShredder (fixs problems automatically during scan)

I don't mean to hijack this thread flavalee, but as you say there are hundreds of files
etc on my computer under *.tmp.

On the one hand I am delighted to clear up as much junk as I can.On the other, some of the files relate to Symantec, and I would not like to lower my defences if thats what removing these items would mean. Can anyone confirm that no harm would result in removing these files please?

Ras1:

I can understand your concern. I've had people come up with over 2,000 files and get freaked out about deleting them. Trust me, it's all junk. If you're that worried about it, all those files will remain in the Recycle Bin until you empty it. If you want them back, it's just a matter of going into the Recycle Bin and selecting it all, then clicking File - Restore.

Paulcfloh-to get back on track of your thread and please accept my apologies for
the prior intervention.
You say you have tried everything, but have you tried to alter it from the internet explorer icon on your desktop? It might not clean your computer but at least you can open up with the website you want.
I did a whois on the hijacked url and it comes up as an unnamed shopping mall. Some of
them offer you the choice of having them as your homepage-could you have clicked yes by mistake?
In the source code there is a reference to www.searchmeup.com which has a very
similar home page that is registered to a guy in the Seychelles.Whereas the url
that you have is allocated to a webhosting company in Estonia who probably have
those numbers reallocated to another company-though I doubt in the Seychelles.

Ras1:

I'm the same way. I empty the Recycle Bin every day before I shut down my computer.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Paulcfloh:

I'm still waiting for a response from you.

After you've installed and updated and run those 3 utilities and cleaned out the junk files and rebooted your computer, post a new HijackThis log here.

Hi Flav,
First and foremost thanks for your informative and helpful sugestion.

Firstly, I did try to go to my IE browser-tools and try to modify my homepg either using blanks/yahoo and then apply , delete all files n cookies and then restart but its still stuck at the cws.

Then Ive followed your advice accordingly:
1. Ive searched my computer and deleted all the temp folders as instructed in *.TMP,C:\TEMP\*.*
,C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\*.*
2. Ive scanned using the oder prescribed and taking time to download any updates:
(1)Ad-Aware (select and fix everything)
(2)Spybot (select and fix everything in red)
(3)CWShredder (fixs problems automatically during scan)

3. I also downloaded service pack 1 and 2 for win xp to plug any holes.
4. Then i restarted but my wp is still stucked at
http://195.95.218.172/index.php

Any other advice is greatly appreciatted.
