    Hi all,

I have recently ran Hijackthis to discover: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RPCSS.EXE which I have not had in my other scans before (I keep an old clean log in my documents file to comepare from time to time). What I am worried about is what is this thing, what does it do, is there a particular program that the file is from and will it harm my system if I delete it?

    Here is my latest log:

    Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.0
Scan saved at 20:59:43, on 22/09/04
    Platform: Windows 98 SE (Win9x 4.10.2222A)
    MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106)

    Running processes:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KERNEL32.DLL
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSGSRV32.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MPREXE.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\mmtask.tsk
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ZONELABS\VSMON.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RPCSS.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSTRAY.EXE
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\GRISOFT\AVG6\AVGCC32.EXE
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\ZONE LABS\ZONEALARM\ZLCLIENT.EXE
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH JUKEBOX\MM_TRAY.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WMIEXE.EXE

Thanks for the link kath100, I have visited there before but to be honest with you I can't make much sense of it....I'm a bit thick that way (only kidding). I don't know where it has appeared from, like I say it wasn't there a while ago....

    Thanks.

Thanks MFDnSC.. That was the type of answer I have been looking for. The thing that got me worried was the network bit, I ain't on a network. But I must have misunderstood the term network !!

    Thanks, Wizzkid
