    Hi,

Could someone please look at this hijackthis log and let me know if there are things to remove? I've been running a bit slow and I want to make sure I don't have any viruses or trojans. Several things are coming up with a ? or X next to them, but I know that doesn't necessarily mean they are bad. Need a pro to look at this.

    Thank you!

Hi, and welcome to our malware removal forum!

My name is Richard and I'll be happy to help you with your computer problems.

    Please note the following:

    • The cleaning process is not instant as logs can take time to research. Sit tight and please be patient.
    • I will be working on your malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you may have with your system.
    • While we are fixing your problems, do NOT install/re-install any programs or run any fixes or scanners unless told to do so.
    • Ensure that your anti-virus definitions are up-to-date.
    • I would advise backing up all your important documents, personal data files and photos to a CD or DVD drive.
    • Do not back up any Applications (programs). These should be re-installed from the original source CD(s) or website(s).
    • During the course of our cleanup, please do not do any additional online work or surfing until we have verified that your system is clean.
    • I suggest printing out each set of instructions and reading the entire post before proceeding. It will make following them easier.
    • Be sure to follow the directions and run tools/scans in the order listed.
I will return as soon as possible with more instructions.

    Regards,

    Richard:D

please let me know why you think there's malware on this machine - did your antivirus software identify something?:)

    Please do the following:

Check that the download location is set to the Desktop in whichever browser you will be using to download the tools we use:
How to change the download location in IE, Firefox, Chrome and Opera

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
    • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
    • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.
    Next

Please download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.

    • Double click aswMBR.exe to start the tool.
    • When asked if you want to download Avast's virus definitions please select Yes.
    • Click Scan
    • Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review. Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.
    • You will also notice another file created on the desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) file. Attach that zipped file in your next reply as well.
In your next reply, please provide the following:

    • FRST logs.
    • aswMBR log.

    Regards,

    Richard:D

Reason I wanted to check my system is that when I ran Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware I came across some things....I had them fixed or quarantined, but have attached screenshots of both logs.

I ran Farbar and aswMBR and attached all logs.

Potentially Unwanted Programs(PUP) are typically bundled with free programs that you download:)(y)

Download Security Check from here or here.
    • Save it to your Desktop.
    • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
    • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

    Next

please download a fresh copy of AdwCleaner.

    ADWCLEANER
    ----------------------------
Download AdwCleaner from here and save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
    • Click on the Scan button.
    • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
    • After the scan has finished...
    • This time, click on the Clean button.
    • Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
    • Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
    • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
    • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
    • A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder.
    Next

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.
In your next reply, please provide the following:
    • checkup.txt log.
    • AdwCleaner log.
    • JRT.txt.

When I ran AdwCleaner I hit scan and then it got to a point where is said, "waiting for action. Please uncheck elements you want to keep.", BUT there was nothing listed for me to consider?? It never asked me to click scan or reboot so I don't think this ran correctly. I tried to install from a different site but had same results.

    AdwCleaner log looks ok.

Open notepad. Please copy the contents of the code box below. To do this highlight the contents of the box and right click on it. Paste this into the open notepad. Save it to the same location where FRST.exe is located as fixlist.txt
    Code:
    start
    SearchScopes: HKU\S-1-5-21-4270046745-64239658-3058430231-1001 -> {59EEDC2F-A2AF-4802-BFDB-905A6B49454E} URL =
    EmptyTemp:
    end
NOTICE: It's important that both files, FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

Run FRST again like we did before but this time press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the same location the tool is saved (Fixlog.txt) please post it to your reply.

In your next reply, please provide the following:
    • Fixlog.txt
    • Description of how your PC is running.

Ok so I ran FRST and when I went to run it I got an error message. I ran it anyway and towards the end it said it had another error, but then finished....? Screenshots of both attached. It did run the fix and I rebooted as instructed. I will let you know how the laptop is running but it might not be until tomorrow, crazy day today.

Ok....the only problem I'm currently experiencing is that my browsers are extremely painstakingly slow to load. Is there anything I can check to see why? and to make them faster?

Yes both...I would have to say that IE is definitely worse though...can't get into my google mail on IE. I use Firefox more due to this. Facebook....forget it in either....won't load.
