This is my first time using one of these boards, so hopefully I'll do it right.

My web page was changed to searchmiracle.com, but since I changed it back to my usual, it has remained. There were also some favorites added to my "favorites", and an "elite bar" tool bar added. But the biggest nuisance is there are links embedded in web pages that link you to searchmiracle.com.

I've run the updated Norton AV and the updated adaware, spyware doctor, and spy sweeper, but I haven't been able to get rid of this.

    Here is my HJT log:

For example, the above quote in my browser has two links in it:

    "But the biggest nuisance is there are links em<a target="_blank" href="http://searchmiracle.com/text/search.php?qq=Bed">bed</a>ded in <a target="_blank" href="http://searchmiracle.com/text/search.php?qq=Web Pages">web pages</a>... "

    Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

Because XP will not always show you hidden files and folders by default, Go to Start > Search and under "More advanced search options".
Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Next click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now find and delete these files:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\enbiei.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\emvjlbaj.exe
    C:\windows\system32\winsud32.exe
    C:\windows\system32\windnf32.exe

    Empty the Recycle Bin.

    Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    Click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
    Restart your computer.

When you are sure you are clean turn it back on and create a restore point.

Go here and do an online virus scan.

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the exact file name and file location so you can delete it yourself.

    Does that seem ok now?

The only thing is, you lost me with the restore points. The box next to system restore tab was already checked, am I supposed to leave it checked and restart my computer? And what do you mean by create a restore point?

    Thanks again!

    Clean! (y)

Now turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

    To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.

I really appreciate the help (and am definately making a donation), but when I select "system restore", I don't get that wizrard, just a box that says System restore has been shut off, do I want to turn on system restore? Yes or no. When I click yes, I'm taken to the system properties, system restore tab that has a box "turn of system restore on all drives" checked.

    Thanks again.

Turn System restore back on by removing the check by "Turn off ystem Restore on all drives". After you turn it back on you can create a restore point.
