HijackThis Scanlogs are usually best posted in the Security forum.

For now, check the following entries in the Scanlog, close all browser windows, and select "fix checked":

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {000020DD-C72E-4113-AF77-DD56626C6C42} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xpsrve] C:\WINDOWS\System32\xpsrve.exe

On reboot, delete the bolded file.

Also, if you do NOT know what this is and cannot vouch for it, check and fix it as well:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ANIWZCSService] C:\Program Files\Alpha Networks\ANIWZCS Service\WZCSLDR.exe

Thanks, Rog! I did the fix but I'm still getting the pop-up, so I think I'll head over to the security forum and see what I can find.

This wasn't in your first Scanlog so I don't know whether it is the immediate source of the problem, but it is Adware:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [stdecodw] C:\WINDOWS\System32\stdecodw.exe

Do a ctrl-alt-del to bring up the Task Manager and terminate the process.

Then run HijackThis and check and fix the entry. You should then be able to delete the file itself; but if you get an access denied message you may need to reboot, possibly to safe mode to delete it.

I think that did it! I just opened a bunch of browser windows to test and there was nary an unwanted pop-up among them. Thank you very, very much!
