Hijackthis log System freezing only while online

    Hi everyone
    This log file is from my in-laws computer. They dial up for their service and they were telling me that the computer would intermitentantly freeze up only when they went online. I took the system home to test it out. I too found that it was intermitent. But it has gotten worse. Now it freezes and its only when I use their dial up. You get on and you usually get to one site and then it all freezes. You can't even do a restart.
    But here is the interesting thing. I have Cable so I siwtched it over to my connection and it runs great. As a matter of fact I'm posting from it right now. So I'm stumped. Thought I would post a log here to see if something shows. I hate to have to wipe this thing out when the problem seems to be only when they dial up thru their provider. The only thing they said they did different (3 months ago) was add an accelerater the dial up provider provided. I did unistall it to see if that helped but nothing changed. A couple of times when I went to shutdown the system after dialing up I noticed that an end now screen came up showing ccApp which I think is Nortons AV which they use. I have run spybot and cleaned it up before I ran this log.

    Welcome.

    There is no evident malware in that log. The issue seems to be related to Symantec's Norton Antivirus, which is notorious for depleting resources. Iwould suggest you remove Norton from the computer and load a less invasive program.

    I do have a question about all those RO and R1
    Do they need them all? Their homepage is Yahoo.com

    They have had Nortons for years. They are running version 2006 and have had no issues with it that they have mentioned to me. I watched again when I went to shutdown the system and I saw the ccapp end now and I thought I saw a end now IE.exe.
    They have like 70 days left. I dont use Nortons anymore for other issues it caused on my system.
    The only thing I have not done is delete their current connection with their dialup and start from scratch.
    Or is there an easy way to do a Repair on IE7?
    So strange that everything works just fine on my cable connection. But you go and dial up with their provider and it locks.
    I too wonder if that accelerater they downloaded fromt heprovider 3 months ago caused some problem. I did uninstall it but things are the same.

    The R0, R1, 2 &3 lines will make no difference, unless they aim to a not too friendly site. This section covers the Internet Explorer settings for Start Page, Home Page, and Url Search Hooks.

    R0 is for Internet Explorers starting page and search assistant.

    R1 is for Internet Explorers Search functions and other characteristics.

    R2 is not used currently.

    R3 is for a Url Search Hook. An Url Search Hook is used when you type an address in the location field of the browser, but do not include a protocol such as http:// or ftp:// in the address. When you enter such an address, the browser will attempt to figure out the correct protocol on its own, and if it fails to do so, will use the UrlSearchHook listed in the R3 section to try to find the location you entered.

    There is no repair for IE7, except for removing and reinstalling, which may bring you more problems.

    Again, there is no evident malware in the system. I am sure that after removing Norton, things will look better.

    The list you mention of Antivirus programs.
    Is anyone one of those best with a dial up connection? They are very slow and dont have any resources yet for cable or DSL. Some programs can take a long time to update.

    Or are there any pay antivirus programs that do well?

    All will behave the same, except they will not deplete your resources as Norton does. That will speed things up on the connection.
