Download the trial version of Ewido Anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop. When the trial period expires it becomes freeware with reduced functions but still worth keeping.

    • Once you have downloaded Ewido Anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
    • Once the setup is complete you will need run Ewido and update the definition files.
    • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
    • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine"
    • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close Ewido Anti-spyware, Do NOT run a scan yet. We will do that later in safe mode.

    • Reboot your computer into Safe Mode now. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while Ewido is scanning as it may interfere with the scanning process:
    • Launch Ewido Anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
    • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
    • Ewido will now begin the scanning process. Be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
    • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
    • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
    • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
    • Close Ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode.

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
    • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
    • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
    • Enter your Country
    • Enter your State/Province
    • Enter your e-mail address and click send
    • Select either Home User or Company
    • Click the big Scan Now button
    • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
    • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
    • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
    • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

Come back here and post a new HijackThis log along with the logs from the Ewido and Panda scans.

All that turned up was cookies. However, you seem to be running AVG, Nod32 and McAfee. This is not good as they will conflict with each other and cause problems. You need to decide which one you're going to keep and then remove AVG and McAfee. :p

Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
    Click the "Delete Cookies" button
Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK

Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox:
    Go to Tools > Options.
Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information

Rescan with HijackThis, close all browser windows except HijackThis, put a check mark beside these entries and click fix checked.

What makes you suspect that you have malware?

Hello again ! The only reason I now use AVG Free and Nod32 is because AVG usually detects viruses and deletes viruses that Nod32 cannot, and vice verse with Nod32. However I have long time uninstalled McAfee. How do I get rid of all files or whatever I need to get rid of from McAfee on my computer ?

Thank for for the instructions as I havenow cleaned my Cache and Cookies in IE + FF and fixed that 016 entry in HijackThis.

You ask "What makes you suspect that you have malware?" - at least I know I did not very long ago, even last night. I had a bad infection of Spyware quake and many other viruses last week, and despite my knowledge and age, I tried my best to get rid of this. This week there are, or were pop up ads, and I didn't even have a browser open. I assumed there was some instances of Malware ... ? Ad-ware ... ? Spyware ... ? Occasionally I also got virus pop ups, like Nod32 letting me know a virus is in my computer or a virus is found on a certain url, but I'm not doing anything. So far today after the ewido and panda scans / fixes there hasn't been any problems ... or yet. So would this be cleared up ? I'm always worried that I didn't get rid of my problems from last week and that instances of the viruses and/or Spyware quake etc might still be infecting or roming in my computer.

    Please advise. Thanks !

It is likely that you have a variant of the Vundo trojan that hides itself from HijackThis.exe so if we rename HijackThis, the entries should become visible.

Go to the C:\Program Files\HijackThis folder. Right click on the HijackThis.exe file and select "Rename". Rename it puppy.exe. Make sure it has the .exe extension or it will not work.

Then run HijackThis again and post a new log please.

Hi - In the first VundoFix.exe scan nothing was found so I had to submit the file to Atribune. I was able to do this - and sent the file you requested.

i also did the next step, which was "Start Add more files fix". Even though I pasted C:\WINDOWS\System32\wyadd.* I didn't see any messages about the file later on. I hope I pasted the file name correctly. I was able to Remove Vundo.

    Download WinPFind
    • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
    • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
    • Don’t do anything with it yet!

Click here for info on how to boot to safe mode if you don't already know how.

    Reboot into Safe Mode.

    Double click WinPFind.exe
    • Click "Start Scan"
    • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient and let it complete.

    Reboot back to Normal Mode!

    • Go to the WinPFind folder
    • Locate WinPFind.txt
    • Copy and paste WinPFind.txt in your next post here please.

Hi - only some of this now has been done. Somewhere through the scanning process whilst in safe mode, a message in a dialog box came up stating "Invalid data type for 'Flag'" so i clicked OK. I got the impression that maybe it has stopped scanning because of this so I decided to stop the scan post this. What do I do ? What does this all mean ?

Otherwise I don't know that WinPFind does ?

Surprisingly in normal mode the exact same thing had happened after 5 or less minutes into scanning the same message came up.

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

    http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and Microsoft windows applications. choose “close to terminate the application”.....then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. Do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.
