I also have the dreaded Sytem Popup Alert on my computer. I followed the instructions to the letter and used the SmitFauxFix option 2. It did not remove the program which I still see in add/remove program list and get a Norton virus warning when I attempt to delete. Below is the rapport file:

    Any assistance should be appreciated.

    Thanks,

I have read a similar thread and ran the smitfraudfix program option 2. This did not fix the problem. Does anyone else have any other suggestions on how I reove this program.

    Hi, nbkz2p1.:)

    Welcome to TSG.

    [IMG]Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
    • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
    • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
    • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
    • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
    • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
    • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
    • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

If the above link is broken, try this link. Make sure you extract and save the Hijackthis.exe file in a Permanent folder, rather than a Temp folder.

    Hi, nbkz2p1 :)

Download ComboFix from Here or Here. to your Desktop.

    Reboot to Safe mode:

Restart your computer and begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard just before Windows starts to load. If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.

Perform the following actions in Safe Mode.
    • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
    • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Believe me I appreciate the help but these instructions are way too complicated. Is there no easier way to remove this virus? At this point it is probably easier for me to rebuild the system from scratch.

Why so many steps? I really feel Like I am chasing my tail.

Does anyone else have any easier suggestions?

    Hi, nbkz2p1 :)

    Lets go step by step.

Your version of Smitfraudfix is outdated. Please download the latest SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

    Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
