The following HJT log is the result of a machine I was looking at after cleaning. I'd already removed 26 viruses and around 70 adware type things since the machine had been misbehaving quite badly.

The following log is what was left and there seem to my inexperienced eyes to be a few dodgy looking things. Any assistance would be appreciated!

Please download and run the following programs:

    AD-AWARE

    Go here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
    and download Ad-Aware SE Personal

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the bottom right-hand corner of the main window click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

Then, in the main window: Click Start and under Select a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.

Then, deselect Search for negligible risk entries.

To start the scan, click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and then click Next)

    Restart your computer.

    SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY

    http://majorgeeks.com/download2471.html

Open Spybot Search & Destroy (Click Start, Programs, Spybot S&D (Advanced Mode). Click online, Search for updates, Download all available updates. Close all Browser windows, Click ''Check for Problems''. Anything that needs to be fixed it will show in red and have a green check in the box to the left. Click ''Fix Selected Problems'', Then restart your computer.

Then, after rebooting, please post another log and we’ll see what’s left to get rid of. But before doing so, please download the newest version of Hijack This 1.98.2

I suppose I should have said I'd already run adaware and spybot. I'm no longer at the machine so am not easily in a position to load the latest HJT, still any comments from what I have posted would still be appreciated.

    At first glance,

    These three are a problem.

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{A045DC85-FC44-45be-8A50-E4F9C62C9A84} - (no file)

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{0428FFC7-1931-45b7-95CB-3CBB919777E1} - (no file)

and you need to get rid of all of the entries pertaining to MyWay.

    and these:

    O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} (Web P2P Installer) -

    O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - http://a1540.g.akamai.net/7/1540/52...meInstaller.exe

    O16 - DPF: {AD7FAFB0-16D6-40C3-AF27-585D6E6453FD} - http://dload.ipbill.com/del/loader.cab

We really need to see the log from version 1.98.2 as it will pick up things that the older version will not.

Many thanks. I'll see what I can do about getting a re-scan with the latest version.

I've always assumed that any entries with (no name) and (no file) will always be rogues on the principle that if they won't announce what they are, they've got something to hide. Am I correct in this assumption?

    Ken.

Not always, but in this case, two of those R3 entries are PerfectNav.

You can check CLSID, BHOs and Toolbar entries against the list here:

    http://computercops.biz/CLSID.html

X of course means bad - L means Leave and O means Open for Discussion (in other words, not decided yet.

They may not go easily and sometimes we have to use Registrar Lite to do it. If you need help with that, please post back to this thread and I will provide the instructions.

OK, I've eventually managed to get HJT updated on this site and rerun having removed the above mentioned. The following is what is now reported.

Rescan with Hijack This and have it fix these entries:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART

    O4 - Global Startup: Digital Line Detect.lnk = ?

    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

In safe mode locate and delete:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking - folder

I would also set a new system restore point.
