There is a lot of infection in the log and we won't even start to clean it up until you do this. Otherwise, it's just a waste of time as the computer will be reinfected immediately.

Go here and install "Service Pack 1" This will patch numerous security vulnerabilities in IE and Windows. As your machine stands now it is wide open to infection. You need to get these updates before we proceed or we will be wasting our time.

DO NOT install Service pack 2 yet. If you install SP 2 on an infected machine it will cause serious problems. Just get Service Pack 1 installed then come back here and post a new HijackThis log.

HI cookie well good news and bad, got him to try to upgrade to SP 1 so we can carry on but Unfortunately it failed the validation check, so I'm guessing the company he got it from was a bit free with XP pirateing . What can we do now..................... get a new legal copy?? or can we register this one??

    all the best

I'm afraid there's nothing more we can do as we cannot help with pirated software but he may have recourse if he reports the place he bought it from to Microsoft.

I have no choice but to close this thread.
