    It means you have a registry error.
    Give us some more context. When does this occur and what changes have you made that might have caused it?
    OS and computer specs might help also.

    it's running xp and the message comes up when i do a registry scan

    Why are you scanning the registry?
    Registry cleaners, in general, are worthless.

    it was through tuneup utilities 1click maintenance

    I don't know that program, but many of them are not trustworthy.
    Just ignore the registry error and all will be well.

    can this cause some sites to not work EG. hotmail

    It sounds as though you're using this program to correct a problem.
    Describe the problem fully.

    well we can't sign into hotmail on that computer but we can on my laptop

    You're making me work too hard. Describe the problem fully.
    What OS? What browser? How long has this been going on and what have you tried to fix it?
    What error message do you get?

    it's running xp,i've tried internet explorer and a few other browser,i haven't tried anything to fix it as i don't know much about computers except reinstalling them and the error message is The Key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\-(9AFB8248-617F-460d-9366-D71CDEDA3179)-\TreatAs points to the missing CLSID HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\-(571715D7-3395-4DF0-B43C-784836209E60

    What happens when you try to sign in?
    Try clearing your cache and deleting your browser cookies.

    i try to sign in and it just goes back to the sign in page
