Hi All,

I'm trying to re-establish an XP home network arrangement I had between a desktop and laptop via an ethernet switcher. It was working and then stopped. Now it fails to auto-assign IP address to either machine. Assigning static IP gets rid of the "limited or no connectivity" status, but still neither computer appears to the other. I'm not sure if I'm doing the static address thing right, since I just put 192.168.2.5 for one machine and 192.168.2.7 for the other, and have no real idea what the other settings, default gateway, etc. should really be. I just copied what I saw suggested online.

I tried the home network Wizard several times on both machines with combinations of dynamic and static IP, but nothing gets the two computers to see each other. My main concern is to access internet on the laptop via the ethernet connection to the desktop which has a wireless broadband usb modem. As I said, it used to work. A new switcher box (Dlink) didn't help either. (I know I could swap the modem between machines, but it's a nuisance.)

Regards,

Simon
