Help!! I guess I must have some kind of new software on my computer that was automatically downloaded, 'cause everytime I log on, my homepage gets set to searchdot.net. Even after I change it to Yahoo and set it in the I.E. options, then log off and log back on, it goes right back to the search page. I notice a quick flash everytime I start up my comp.

Can someone please tell me how to check for software that I did not install? Or, is there anyway to find out if there is some uninvited software on my system??

    Thanks for your time...

    Hi abaddonb

    Welcome to TSG!

Please do this. Go here http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ and download Hijack This. Un Zip it and click on the Hijackthis.exe.

Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

Do NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

have tried that.. even went into registry and deleted and changed settings, but when i reboot, the damn thing goes back to that website... it seems that there is an .exe on my system that loads up on reboot, changing the default page, start page, etc. to the above website...

any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

i finally found a quick solution- it was the java program that they used to sneak in to my computer... sneaky little *******s... i just deleted the folder (even tried removing from add/remove programs and that still didn't work, so had to just click and delete).... sloppy, but effective... default page back to normal... will check microsoft and java to see if there is a patch for this fuggin annoyance...
