When I opened IE this morning, my homepage had been changed (no one but me uses my computer) to http:\\thecoolpics.net. It is nothing I would go to. So I went to Internet Options so I could change it back, and it had the new web address there and it was grayed out. I could not change it. I ran virus scan, I also reset the Internet options to the "default" settings, no avail. I have MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger running and that website address appeared in my email address line on MSN and as an instant message text on Yahoo. How do I get rid of this?
Thank you for your time...
Laura:)

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
