I have started getting the message that a network path can't be found on my homegroup for my laptop. Error code 0x80070035. I have used the network lots of times but suddenly the laptop can see all the files on the PC but the PC can't see the laptop. Any suggestions please?

Am I posting in the wrong section or has nobody else had this problem? Any comments appreciated.

What are the make/model and Operating system for each computer?

Have you tried "pinging" the computers by name from each other?

Thanks for your response. I think I know what I may have done to cause this but I still don't know how to correct it. Both computers are Acer running Windows 7. The desktop is model M3979 (64 bit) and the laptop is 4810T (32 bit).
It started with my laptop being infected and then wiped and everything re-installed. When I got the laptop back it had been given a new name and most annoyingly it had been mis-typed as AMIN instead of ADMIN. In trying to change this I changed not only the name of the laptop but also my user name (and this still didn't get rid of "Amin" and I don't know how to do that.) I rather think I need to sort all the names out. When I try to see the laptop files on the PC I get a box saying "Windows cannot access \\LAPTOP" and "the network path was not found".
Any help would be great.

I have tried to find out how to "ping" but need step by step instructions as nothing seems to be straightforward and I can't work out what to do. Sorry, I feel I am being helpless.
