Can someone please help? My problem is that I have been hit with one of these viruses or Spy things whatever they are calling it. When I go to use Internet Explorer my homepage automatically defaults to a different website and has taken over my default homepage. The following is the website that comes up now as my homepage:

http://296f8.ilxt.info/index.php?aid=20009

Also, when I try to access some websites it will go there for 1 or 2 seconds and then goes back to this homepage. I have downloaded Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D to try and help me out but to no avail....My operating system is Windows 98. Please contact me at this forum or at my email address I apprectiate anyone's help.

Hi Kappa

Welcome to TSG! :)

Please do this:

First create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This.

Now Click here to download Hijack This. Download and save the file to the Hijack This folder you just created.

Click on Hijackthis.exe to launch the program.

Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

The log should open in notepad. Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

PS I removed your email address from your post. You should never post your email addy like that in an open forum like this. You will get more spam that you can imagine as a result of that.

First go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall ViewPoint. See here:

Click here to download the LOP uninstaller. Close all browser windows and run the uninstaller.

When it is finished restart your computer.

I would also recommend that you uninstall SpyKiller if you have not payed for it. It is notorious for false postitives. Adaware and Spybot are much better for free.

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close ALL windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

First in safe mode click on My Computer then go to View > Folder Options. Click on the "View" tab and make sure "Show all files" is ticked and uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types". Click "Like Current Folder" then click "Apply" then "OK"

Now find and delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\STARTSVS.EXE
c:\windows\system\sp2ctr.exe
c:\windows\system\mscnt.exe
c:\windows\system\sncntr.exe
c:\windows\system\rrtzwwqe.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\8WIU97FR0X2P.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MATRIXHERE.EXE

Delete these folders:

C:\FREESCAN
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\ModePhonePlatformExtra
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\Program Files\GMSoft
C:\Program Files\InstantAccess
C:\Program Files\WMADAS~1

I don't know the exact name of that last folder, but it will begin with GRIMSE and will contain the dentonlineseek.exe file.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Go here and download Adaware SE.

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.

Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Restart your computer.

Come back here and post another Hijack This log
