    VERY nice pictures! (y)

How does one take pictures of the horizon?

I never could get anything to come out ...

And, it's a good thing you mentioned Western Pacific - the first thing I thought of when I read M.I. was Michigan :p

Do you live on the Martial Islands?

How do I take a picture of the horizon? I just point and shoot with an Olympus C3000 digital camera. Kwajalein is very beautiful at dusk. I live in Massachusetts, but I travel a lot.

Not exactly a horizon shot. A 7am riverview on Cape Cod.

I'm interested in why you call them "Horizon shots"

as apposed to sunrise or sunset?

I have thousands of shots like that but never thought to call them "Horizons"

by the way...I live on the east coast of Mass.

this is a sunrise in Scituate, Mass...

I am a sailor so it is natural for me to call it a horizon shot. I didn't call it a sunset because you can't see the sun in those shots.

I haven't been alive that long!:D I am also a Sailor/Boater too, but I am also an officer in the Merchant Marine.

My reference is a navigational term. In the days before GPS, when navigating with a Sextant, you bring the sun down to the horizon - measuring its angle to the horizon, and with the Bowditch tables, and a chronometer, you can determine your position.

I hear you... I have an old boat I still use...A Ritchie compass, a chart, dividers and parallel rulers get me anywhere I want to go...

Loran...very old school... and GPS... the yuppie version of Loran... are like having OnStar in your car...... silly for the general public
