Has anyone had any updates about solving the problem with hotmail failing to remember passwords? It gets irksome having to type in the password every time an emailing session takes place. There doesn't seem to be any way of contacting the administrators of hotmail to get a direct answer. Any ideas?

I don't understand. If Hotmail failed to remember your password you could not login unless you could do a password reset. You indicate that you can login, so I'm thinking you must have a different problem?

Maybe you are not telling your browser to remember the password, or you do but the cookie is not being saved?

    Thanks for your reply Terrynet.
I take your point that Hotmail must be remembering the password otherwise I would not be able to log in.
You suggest that it could be my browser (Firefox) not remembering the password or that the appropriate cookie is not being saved.
Could you explain how to go about enabling these two features please?
    Regards,
    suttoncheney.

    Launch Firefox.

    Under Tools, click Options.

In the Options window, click the Security tab.

Under the Security tab, make there is a check in the box next to "Remember passwords for sites."

Click OK, close the browser, and re-launch Firefox.

Then try logging into your mail and see if you get any prompt to remember the password. It should be in the form of a toolbar of sorts near the top of the screen.

    Theshooter93,
Thanks. I've given your suggestion a try. ie, Gone into options>security and found that the check box for 'remember passwords for sites' is checked, as you suggest it should be. After that I thought I would take a look at the 'Saved Passwords' page.
I found that the entry for 'http://login.live.com' shows my selected password but does not show my username, just shows a blank where the username should be. Would this be significant? My browser doesn't appear to be saving my username for the hotmail login. All other usernames and passwords are saved however. I've tried changing the password and saving it again but still have the same login anomaly and a blank on the save passwords page. This is not a serious problem but one that has set itself as a challenge, so, any other suggestions please?
    Regards,
    suttoncheney.

My guess is that this is significant if and only if you have more than one live.com account. You could try deleting it and see if after it gets saved the next time it starts working properly. Once in a great while those password entries somehow get corrupted and the fix is to delete the entry.

    Hi terrynet and other responders,
Thanks once again for your responses. Tried what you suggested terrynet. Deleted all login names and passwords related to hotmail in tools>options>saved passwords.
Logged in once more to my hotmail.co.uk and still had the same result. My password was not saved and I had to enter it each time I logged on.
I thought I would try the same using Internet Explorer rather that Firefox. Guess what? Password was saved after the first login!
Looks as though it is a Firefox issue rather than a computer issue. Interesting!
    Any more thoughts?
    Regards,
    suttoncheney.

Uninstalling an reinstalling Firefox. Just make sure to save your Bookmarks in an HTML file.

    Click Bookmarks

    Then Organize Bookmarks

Under Import and Backup click Export HTML

Save the file to your Desktop for easy access.

One more thing to look at. On that Options... - Security page click the Exceptions button to the right of 'Remember passwords for sites.' If you have either of the following entries remove it or them ...

    http://login.live.com
    https://login.live.com

    Hi theshooter93 and terrynet,
    a) Firefox uninstalled and re-installed. Problem not solved.
    b) 'Options>security>remember passwords for sites>exceptions'
was looked at and found to have no entries.
Where to go from here I wonder?

After you deleted the password (a few posts back) the next time you logged in you were asked if you wanted Firefox to remember, right? And you, of course, responded yes. Was the password saved and just not being used, or is it no longer in Saved Passwords?

    What operating system?

I've always had problems with Hotmail and Firefox entering passwords. I see them saved in the password manager but hotmail will only list the user name. I'm guessing that Microsoft purposely screws with Firefox so the password is not automatically entered. Microsoft websites are the only sites I have problems with passwords not working right.
