I just got into computer building in Nov. I just wanted to know how I was doing. I remind you I built this on a VERY strict budget.

Sempron 3300+ CPU (heatsink and CPU fan)
    FIC K8M-800 Motherboard
    200gig ATA Maxtor HD
    100gig ATA Seagate HD
    1gig of ram
    1 CD/DVD burner
    1 Black 702 Matrix case
    (power supply removed) http://www.powmax.com/pics/gamer702black.htm
    550w Power Up! power supply
ATI radeon 9550 AGP Graphics Card
    Rear Fan 80mm
    Front Fan 80mm
    Side Fan 80mm
    PCI slot fan
    Phillips TV tuner PCI card

I'm sure you will have plenty of airflow with the 3 80mm fans. I'd say take out the PCI slot fan, unless you're using it for a different purpose.
If you're planning on using this computer for a while, then let me suggest to you that you want a stable power supply.
I'd recommend a well-known brand of power supplies, such as Seasonic, FSP, Enermax, Antec, etc.
their 300-450W models will power your computer just fine.

No they're not. If you're on a budget, get a Sparkle. A 350W will power that system easily. You can get one for around $35.00. Strict budget or not, you risk flushing the whole budget if you buy a crummy power supply.

Ultra products are "iffy" sort of low end.

If you want a quality PSU get a PC Power & Cooling, Antec, Seasonic, Enermax, Cooler Master, or Thermaltake.

Don't get cheap when it comes to the power supply. If it doesn't cost at least $90 it's junk.

If you already bought this stuff, I'm not sure what you're looking for.

    Post-purchase validation?

no other part is more important than a power supply. If you risk it there, you risk everything. Just remember you were told that.

See if you can find a Antec within your price range. At least they don't just blow up.
