I've been thinking about starting this thread for a couple of weeks now and I guess today is as good as any.

I'm pretty sure that everyone will have a different story to tell as to How did you get here?

I wanted to keep it simple so that is the one question that I hope will make for an interesting thread.

I got here because I was posting at the BBS Forum (as a regular there) and while attempting to answer what should have been a simple question the person posting it decided to make it difficult.
I'd gone a full twelve rounds with this man and could not seem to find a way to get this man to accept the facts.

eddie5659 came along and changed all of that, he simply said (and I wish I could quote him word for word but I can't)
"Hiya Joe" I understand what you are getting at, however DS is giving you the straight up facts, and here are the links to support what he tells you."

    ....end of thread.

I'd never heard of eddie5659 before that, so I sent him a PM saying "thanks man I appreciate you stepping in and providing your input....."

eddie5659 replied "No problem mate I'd been looking at the thread and was hoping you didn't mind that I stepped in......."
he went on to tell me about this really nice site called TSG and gave me the link here.

.......the rest is history. So my question to you all is How did you get here?

I honestly can't remember, it was so long ago. My registration shows December 98 but it was before that (at least another year, I think). If I recall correctly, everyone's registrations were lost and we had to re-register. Back then there were only a few hundreds members. How times change!!!
I'm would imagine I did a search in Yahoo or similar for free online tech support to end up here though.

I'd been active at forums here in Holland, and through a Google search for something I can't remember I ended up finding a VirtualDr thread.

Looked around, eventually started posting there as well, and heard someone mentioning TSG.

    So it goes...

I'm not sure how I found this web site.
I may have seen a link from another poster at COMPUTING.NET ?

Or it may have been when I was researching a compiler/linker problem with MSVC6++ ?

    I can't recall. :(

Either I'm getting too old to remember or I'm too burnt to remember. :D

First it started with my parents - what? oh you mean on this site. I was working on setting up a server and the first thought was to just change the hard drives but then due to incompatiblity I needed more help then anticipated.

I had tried other sites and more times then not I wouldn't get a timely answer. I did a search and found this site and the next time I had a problem I asked and "Dreamboat" helped me quickly and efficiently. Didn't come back again except for help. When I had to stay sitting for a couple of weeks due to a car accident I thought I'd check out this site just a little more. I NEVER LEFT!

A geek on a local TV community affairs show recommended it. It was just what I was looking for.:D

It was a dark and stormy night. The maid
screamed. Suddenly a ship appeared on
    the horizon...

Uh, well actually my Windows Media Player
downloaded an upgrade that was only for
    Win98, and I'm running Win95. I did a search
    for help sites and found...

The most impressive help site I've ever seen.

    Cheers, Mac :)

If you would just reply to me everytime I help you with a technical question I wouldn't have to have all these people go "Duck Shooting" everynight!

You got me in deep crap with Mafud! ... Thanx Donald!

    BTW.....Call your Mother....She Worries:mad:

Well I wandered in here one day and thought it was a pretty cool place, things were much quieter then though and they are even better now.

Initially, at my work, they suddenly decided that I should be the resident database programmer. I had never used Access before, and only very very breifly used Fox Pro, and I seem to remember somethin called "Bubble".
Anyway, whilst teaching myself Access, I had a few problems (still do!), and was trying to get some quick help from http://www.access-programmers.co.uk
I got some help, but it wasn't as immediate as I needed it. One particularly helpful lady on that site directed me here, recommending it as a place where I may get more help with Access and other IT problems. Cheers Dreamboat!

My first 50 or 100 posts were probably questions, but gradually I found that I could be of some small use to others here too, and I became a kind of irregular regular.
Oh, and then I found Random Discussion and got stuck like a pig in the mud...

I know the feeling well ! When I first started coming to TSG, I never came into this forum and would try to help people out whenever possible at the other forums.

Random Discussion reminds me of quicksand, once you step in, there's no getting out and you end up just sinking deeper and deeper.

I don't think I've helped one person since I started coming to RD :(
