I read recently that I should clean my dvd burner after 20 hours of continuous use. How do I do that? I don't think they mean to wipe the case.

Any electronics store (Best Buy, Radio Shack, even local pharmacies) carry a cleaning cd.

It's simply a cd with a thin line of blistels ( very very soft) that when in the drive and run, will clean your lens to keep it clean.

Retails for about 9 bucks and works on ANY type of drive that accepts cd-sized discs....

i wouldn't clean every 20 hours, do it way less frequent
or only when you have problems

you run some risk of damaging the lens with these
cleaners no matter how good they are

the people who say you should clean every 20
hours are the company that makes the cleaning discs.

I had a feeling that the answer would be 1 of those cd cleaner kits. I wanted to sure. I will also be very careful that I don't clean it too much. I didn't realize that was also an issue.

Thanks to the 2 of you for the excellent advice.

That's a total load, I have DVD drives that have been in use for years with no cleaning. This is just another case of someone trying to make a buck on cleaning kits.
