I have Outlook 2003 and there is a large hotmail email (5MB file attached) in my outbox that I am
trying to delete, but it refuses to budge, indeed it appears to keep sending
an email to the recipient every few minutes according to the sent box.

The responses I've seen to clear this seem to lead in the right direction but the precise steps are not clear. Can someone break it down more clearly for me. I've tried deleting / going offline etc but that hasn't worked.

Hi and welcome. Try to drag it into the DRAFT BOX and delete it from there.

    Hi rustysiv

    In Outlook,
    File > Work Offline
    Attempt to delete the message.

If that fails, leave Outlook in Offline mode and restart Outlook, then attempt to delete the message again.

If it still fails, create a new Personal Folders (.pst file) and make it the default delivery location. The message should be able to be deleted once Outlook uses the new Personal Folders for Sending and Receiving.

File > New > Outlook Data File
    Name the new .pst file.
It should open in Outlook 2003

Tools > E-mail Accounts > View or change existing e-mail accounts
In the drop down field for: Deliver new e-mail to the following location:
Select the new Personal Folders (.pst) file.

Close and restart Outlook 2003 for the changes to go into effect.

Then access the Outbox of the original Personal Folders and delete the file.

You can then change the Default delivery location back to the original Personal Folders (.pst) file, repeating the steps above and switching to the original Personal Folders as the Default Delivery Location.
    Close and restart Outlook 2003.

To remove the new Personal Folders (.pst) file, Right click on it and select: Close "FileName"
I have several Personal Folders open in Outlook 2003, I use them to store older messages.

Let us know if that works for you or not.
