How do I find out how much a kilowatt hour is worth?

    That discussion overlooks the value (cost) of distributing electricity to the network including labor/ materials/ benefits and taxes paid. The value of electricity from a home panel is like the cordwood value of a tree standing in the forest.
    Note also that any added payout to solar panel owners wouldn't come from profits but from other users, most of which cannot afford solar panels.

    Unless the energy company is forced to sit on some of the power it produces (unsellable due to solar covered demand) and this incurs sizable extra costs to the company, that doesn't seem logical.
