in the device manager it says it's working properly but when i connect my modem/router it just keeps saying acquiring network address. Also when i tried to install the modem via the cd it said no router was detected. I've installed the drivers but it won't work. It was working fine until i changed the link speed settings but i changed it back and now it won't work.
I've tried using a different cable but it didn't work.

What "link speed settings" and what is the current setting?

    Please show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

    Type the following command:

    IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

The 'Media disconnected' probably means the cable or the NIC is defective. Does the LED light when the cable is plugged in?
