My Trend PC-cillin spyware/virus protection program is giving me a confusing message.

I keep getting popups from it saying my system is infected with something called ADW_ADBLASTER.B

They(in the popup notification) go on to say that Trend was not able to remove or delete it...and I should delete the file "manually".

They say the name of the file is:

ADPROT.EXE (D:\SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION\_RESTORE{FDB3FB81-739B-4866-9DC4-C28A5924F37E}\RP1028\A0107114.EXE)

Could someone Please tell me how to find and do that?
I've searched the files in my computer and it doesn't tell me WHERE that file is.

Please Help!
Trend seems to be pretty good(and is supposed to be rated highly), but give NO help on how to do that...even on their website!!

Disabling and re-enabling System Restore should flush that out.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.

I get as far as my XP Pro telling me my restore has been turned off, and do I want to turn it on again.

I clicked "Yes"....then the System Properties box comes up still Unchecked....and no "Wizard" appears.

What now, Please?

Nothing comes up to ask me about any restore points to create

so you turned off system restore, then you restarted then created a restore point? i wouldn't think you need to restart unless it asks you to

Yes, I turned off system restore by the checkbox, clicked Apply, and OK.

I can't say I ever "restarted" if you mean rebooting the computer , because I haven't done that yet....I was asking here if I should,. or not.

But when I went back onto system restore ans clicked "yes" I wanted to creat a new restore point, the only option was to fill in a blank field(there nere has been a "calender" showing days to chose in the past either)....so I just typed in....After1/13/06.

Was that write?
I'm confused!
This Pro system doesn't seem to act like friends "Home" versions.

Now it still does not show a calender to shose a day to restore to...even for today only.

What do I do???

OK after a couple of hours now, the system restore still does not show a calender when I say I want to restore my computer to an earlier time. And I still haven't rebooted because it never prompted me to do it.

When...will the calender appear and give me the option to go back to an earlier time....tomorrow after midnight?

thanks cheeseball81,
I copied it into a wordpad. named it 1.reg and double clicked on it.
My computer said it imported the file into my registry, but still no calender shows in system restore.

What now, Please?
(will the calender in system restore show tomorrow? It still says there are no restore points and calender. Is it too soon?)

Please help me get my system restore to work and show a calender to have restore points!

Still no restore calender this morning, or restore points in my system restore utility!
(I guess that spyware is gone though)

I'd REALLY like to have a system restore option.....I've tried EVERY suggestion here from all you kind people.

I tried it again by using the "After trojan/spyware cleanup" name of a new restore point...and got some red letters saying it hade created it, with the current time. HOW long before a restore point/calender will show up in that utility? (a few hours?.. a day?...after I do a reboot?, When, Please!?

Should I post this on the regular XP forum here?

I've tried to instal Real Player a couple times this morning and each time the installation gets 90% done and my Trend PC-cillin virus program pops up with a notice that it has stopped it and deleted "ADW_MINIBUG.A".....and it won't complete the install.

Is that a bad spyware?

I'd just like to ask something about that .reg file you copied. Did you include this text in it that's at the very beginning?

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
