How do I get rid of the LAN icon in systray?

    It's just an annoyance. I don't need it, not on a LAN, and I'd like to be able to get rid of it...thanks!

    I have windows xp pro

    Start/control panel/network connections.
    Right click the network connection and click properties.
    Uncheck the show icon box and click OK.

    In Network Connections right click on the connection and select 'Disable.'

    Why "Oops"? If the OP is really not using the ethernet he wants my solution. If he actually is using it (e.g., connected directly to a modem) he wants your solution. :)

    I was posting that they didn't want to disable it,
    but,either way,they want to get rid of the icon
    and notifictaions in the task bar,so either should work
    as they are not using the connection.
