    How do I get rid of the Windows Messenger - not signed in Icon that is always in my systray?

    I already chose the option for it not to start with Windows, but it's still there.

    I Don't want to use Windows Messenger.

    just open the file C:\Windows\inf\sysoc.inf

    it will display its content, then look for the line

    msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7

    edit the line above to this:

    msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7

    reboot......

    then,

    run add/remove programs in the control panel (before the
    common programs installed by windows xp is not displayed in
    the add/remove programs). It will surely display the
    messenger. then remove it....

    reply if the installation is a succes...

    Easiest and simplest way eould be to copy and paste the following into the start / run box and click ok.

    rundll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %systemRoot%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

    Before doing so be sure to right clcik the icon and select exit.
