    Hi All,
My Athlon 2.6 XP Pro (sp2) machine has started misbehaving. It appears that system resources (processor/memory) are being consumed by something over which I have no control.
Firewall and virus scan up to date and running fine.
The main symptom is a lagging and jerky cursor, slow opening of dialog boxes & slow responses in various other ways. My only clue is when looking at 'processes' in the task manager a process called HPZipm.12.exe keeps briefly appearing, maybe 10 times a minute for 1/2 second each time.
I've uninstalled all my HP stuff, no change. I did notice that an HP Viewer tried to self install on a recent startup and was difficult to get rid of, but not now.
The problem goes away in Safe Mode, so... how do I slowly and individually start all the stuff in Safe Mode I normally have running on regular startup in order to try and identify the problem? When I find it, what do I do then?
    Many thanks for your time.
    Peter

Look in Msconfig (if it is one of those tasks) and individually run them.

The easiest way may be to download, install and run HiJackThis

Run the Scan and save log
When the LOG file opens in Notepad, select all, copy and come back here and paste the results in a Reply post for review.

    Hi WhitPhil,

Here's the log you suggested, I'm afraid it means little to me, I recognise some of the programmes but that's about it. I hope it offers a clue...
