I accidentally deleted it and can't figure out how I got it there in the first place.

Just drag it down there and drop it.

I just re-read your post, and I see that you are actually trying to put the "Show Desktop" icon back into your taskbar, so ignore the above and do this:

Go to this site and download the 'Restore/Add Show Desktp' VBS file on line 61, http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the VBS Files: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double
click the vbs file. You will be prompted when the script is done.

NOTE: If your anti-virus software warns you of a "malicious" script, this is normal if you have "Script Safe" or similar technology enabled. These scripts are not malicious, but they do make changes to the System Registry.

Hi, If by chance you had the Desktop toolbar link at bottom right which used to pop up a list of the Desktop items, it's just an on or off thing:

Right click the taskbar, select Toolbars, and put a check next to Desktop and you can have the list pop up again> just click on the word Desktop on the taskbar.

If it was the Taskbar button, bottom left in QuickLaunch, do as the above post says to restore it.

Open windows explorer. Go to C:\Windows\System
Open the System folder(not System32) scroll down and you will see the Show Desktop icon. Drag and copy it to the quick launch bar beside the start button.

Woops, I meant the "Show Desktop" icon. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for your help.
