I need to know how to uninstall a program (quicktime) that's not listed in my add/remove programs, and has no uninstall option. I don't even remember installing it! It's really getting on my nerves! My kids may have installed it?????

Are you sure it's not in the Add/Remove programs list? I checked the Apple site and it should be there.

Maybe try re-installing it, rebooting and then check add/remove programs to see if it is there. Maybe someone here can think of a better solution. Perhaps it wasn't completely installed correctly the first time?

    You can get it here:

As lola said it should be there and as lola said maybe a reinstall is necessary but first is there an uninstall option available via start->programs->Quick time->Uninstall Quicktime? That option should be available as well.

some webpages will require you have it installed.
There is no real way to get rid of it, ( i dont think ).
you can stop it from loading a windows startup thru MSCONFIG / startup tab, but next time you open up that particular web site, it will automatically set it self to auto launch at startup.
    Its annoying.........I know.

Nahhh Quicktime is not mandatory. Some websites may want you to have it installed to run thier media format and suggest you install it but in no way do you have to have it installed as lola said it should be in Add/Remove programs (in which I have had success in removing) and there is also should be an uninstall option where I stated.

Imagine that, Windows software requiring an Apple product to run. Don't think that'll be happening any time soon. ;)

I reinstalled the program...then uninstalled it! It is still there! When i go to (search) files and folders...a whole mess of it appears. It was not in add/remove programs at all!!! I am an avid user...and i know a little more than the basics about the PC. Not a pro though. Is there anything else i can do? I hate leaving extra's around from a program that is supposedly not actively installed on a PC.

When you say 'still there" what exactly do you mean? If the icon is still on the desktop it doesn't mean that the program is still there, you can just right click and delete these. Same goes for the program list. You could search registry for quicktime and delete all you find.

go into windows explorer and delete the folders manually, and if it is still stubborn ,wdit your registry and filetypes

I would download and run spybot; here is a link.

After it is installed, let spybot update itself with the latest reference file. Now run spybot.
Let it repair anything in red that it finds; other things like usage tracks can be left alone.

as a side note to Swiper, open Quicktime and under the EDIT menu choose Preferences/Quick Time Prefs. There you'll see a drop down menu, generally starting with "updates". In there you can stop QT from starting at Windows start which is the correct way to disable it, not MSCONFIG. It isn't needed and can be removed easily, no pun intended considering calibound32's troubles. :)
