I guess I have questions in general about how to use this site correctly. i didn't find anyplace that i could ask questions other than here. i've read the 'rules' and the 'read this before you post' thing.

1. is there somewhere to go to ask a question?

I posted a... plea for help .. in the HJT forum on thursday.

I forgot to paste the log into the post. i couldn't find any way to EDIT my post and add it.
2. is there a way to edit a post?

i ended up REPLYing to my post, just to add the log. but, noone has answered my plea for help.

3. is that because it is showing 1 reply?

4. how long before someone might help me?

i see in the rules that i can't repost, but i'm afraid that my request for help will just become old and noone will help.
5. what CAN i do?

thanks

For question one you just go to the forum you think your question belongs in and click the new button at the top. For number two, there is a certain time period after you have posted, during this time you can click the edit link at the bottom of your post. Question three may be because only certain people with gold and blue shields next to their name can help in the hi-jack this forum. For question four it depends try waiting another day, then post "bump" without the quotes.

welcome to TSG, kteveler :)
you've got the right idea...

in general, tho....posts can only be edited by the poster for the first 24 hrs...after that, it's too late

here's the deal in the malware forums.

if there's a reply to a new thread, most of the folks there who know their stuff assume someone picked up the thread and is helping out (i understand in your case that's not true)....however, after 48 hours, if no one has come on board to help out, you can hit the "report" button -there's one at the bottom of every post, near the "edit" button- explain its been 2 days, and ask for help. that will draw attention to the fact you've been waiting, and generally gets a response asap

hope this helps :)

thanks so much you all!! i realized i phrased q#1 wrong... it should have said "is there somewhere i can go to ask a question 'about using this site'?" ;-) i guess that was here! at any rate you both have been a great help! i left my computer just overwhelmed and about to cry this morning! (must've been pmsing on top of everything else - i know, tmi.) but now i'm smilin'. :-D i read another thread here and i will be sure to post back and let whomever helped me know it worked (or not). thx again. kt
