    Hi,

My friend has just been given a PC, its WinXP and the logon name at
startup is not his name, its the previous owner.
Could you tell us how to change the logon name please.

    John :)

    Hi john1

    Change the name:
    Start > Run
    key in:
    control userpasswords2

On the Users tab, if not present, place a check mark in: Users must enter a name and password to use this computer:
Highlight the User Account > Properties.
    Rekey the name.

    Or
Control Panel > User Accounts Icon > Highlight User Account > Change My Name

Or a new User Account can be created instead.

Let us know if that works for you or not.

It accepted the new name, with the old password,
now going to turn it off again,
to see if it starts up with the new name.
