How do you know if your plasma tv is starting to die?

I've got a 4 to 5 year old Vizio 32 inch plasma that has started to get flickering "snow" in the display. There are several short horizontal dashes scattered throughout the screen that flicker white. This started about a month ago, and the little dashes have multiplied and are forming horizontal lines across the screen. What is this? Is it fixable somehow, or is it a sign the TV is starting to go?

Picture quality (standard definition) seems like it isn't as good either, but we just got a Roku box that is hooked up via HDMI, so it could just be me noticing the difference.

I really hope the TV isn't going, because I like the plasma display and I can't get one under 42 inches anymore. And the 32 inch TV fits the TV stand.

Thanks in advance for any help/insight.
