Hi, i recently got the apple airport base station extreme. I used it to network two computers over ethernet, then hooked up an external hard drive directly to the base station. Speeds were dissapointing.

However I have seen network storage that have gigabit ethernet ports, and my new motherboard has a gigabit ethernet port.

How fast would data transfer be from an external hard drive/network storage container with a gigabit ethernet cable?

Is it faster than esata? I heard that in reality even though its a gigabit ethernet cable, when it comes to transferring data it only transfers at USB 2.0 speeds. Is this true?

    thanks!
