The numbers are a rough approximation.

Basically the amd64 does more work per clock cycle than the intel SO the intel chip must run faster. Right now the amd64s have it over the intel chips in both performance and cooling. The intel chips from prescott on run pretty warm. The amd64s run in the high 20s or low 30s [C]

Because the A64 has a DDR core. It can perform more instructions per clock than the Intel can.

I would say it`s more efficient in how it performs the tasks.

DDR refers to the Dual Data Rate memory, which the memory controller on the Athlon a64 is right in the CPU die itself making it even faster. But the processor speed scale of the athlon model # correlating with the Intel GHz equivalent was started with the XP chips, and those had the memory controller on the motherboard.

DDR doesn't necessarily apply to RAM. The DDR in CPUs was implemented before DDR RAM came out. In this case it is just double data rate. However, there is more. They have a quantispeed architecture that allows them to do more work per clock
