How much to charge

    I am recovering files from a external hard drive about 500gigs

    what is a fair price to charge?

    I hate this part of being the it guy, (not self employed work on the side)

    that's difficult , if for a friend , is it family or friend or just someone off the street ?

    You may just want to base it on time, say an hourly rate plus any additional cost incurred.

    That is really a personal choice.
    Professional data recovery services have clean rooms and
    actually take the disks out of the drive and put them in the housing
    of a new drive.
    They charge around $300+.
    It sounds like yours is more of a personal favor type situation,so you
    would want to charge what is fair to you without making her jaw drop and go
    "it's how much?!!" :)

    how annoying, do you want to do any further work for them , too cheap and you will be asked by everyone , do you want further work from them and other co-workers , if so make it worth your while , also have a look at a few shops/computer repairs in your area and see if you can get an idea there

    are you purchasing any software to do the job
