I'm running McAfee Multi Access - Total Protection (PC) on my PC. It's a free application from my Internet Provider. I'm trying to run an exe file that I know has no virus, but McAfee will not let me run it saying that has a virus. How can I run this without McAfee stopping it?

    THANK YOU!!!

I'm not sure. I do know that I have had it a long time and never had an issue with it. Due to a recent divorce, I could not renew my Kaspersky Anti-virus software so I went with the free McAfee. After sometime, McAfee found it and said it was removing it. Knowing very well there was no virus, I tried again to install it with the same results. I have searched the internet for a solution so that McAfee will allow it, but I haven't found the correct solution. Then I remembered this forum.

    Somebody please help!!!

Then what does it do for you?
    What program is it?

Note: If you are running Windows 10 all you need is the built in "Defender" and it works, as most third part AV programs are having a hard time keeping with Microsoft.

So uninstall McAfee and just run Defender? Do I need to turn it on or anything?

Once you uninstall McAfee then Windows Defender should turn itself back on automatically but you can open the interface and look at the Home page to make sure real-time protection is on and the definitions are up to date.

If Windows Defender also detects this file you can add it as an exclusion by clicking on the Settings tab and then click on "Exclude Files and Locations" then click the Browse button and navigate to the file on your computer then click on "Add" to exclude that one file.

You may 'remember' that this file has no virus. But, a new virus can very well infect it, so as to keep itself alive when you remove the main virus itself. That is a common strategy for most viruses, to infect other EXE's so as to distribute the risk of the main virus exe is quarantined or removed.

You may want to upload the exe in question to virustotal and have them check it out with their 40 or so antivirus engines.
